About the CB Titans Basketball ClubThis will be the 7th year for the CB Titans Basketball Club. We plan to have teams in 4th - 7th grade this year. Our club continues to grow and it is exciting to think we might top 60 girls this year. The club's primary purpose is to teach the girls the game of basketball in a competitive environment and to prepare them for high school play. Teams will practice once each week at a gym provided by Lewis Central Schools. The older girls (6th & 7th) will practice on one night from 7 - 9 pm and the younger girls will practice on another night from 7 - 9 pm. Practices are highly skill driven and participation is important to the development of our players. Commitment to attend practices is an important aspect of the program and to a player's overall progress. A skill night will be also held in the fall on Wednesday nights at the Lewis Central High School. This is a completely optional practice night. Teams will play in tournaments and/or league play. It is the effort of the club for each girl to play approximately a 25 - 30 game schedule. While the teams will strive to win games, winning is not the sole measure of success for the organization or teams. Playing competitive games and challenging ourselves is the standard we will continue to hold ourselves to. Equal playing time is not guaranteed, but coaches will strive to play each girl in every game. For grades with multiple teams, the director and coaches will work together to determine the formation of teams. Skill level of players will be factored into this decision, but teams will not be broken into A and B teams. It is the desire of the program to make each team competitive. Girls may also be moved during the middle of the year or for a specific tournament - this is only done to give girls an opportunity to play with other girls within their grade. We take this approach for two primary reasons. First, the girls with more advanced skills will be expected to carry more responsibility in games and this will push them to develop even more as a player. Second, the girls with fewer skills will be pushed harder to improve, but they will still have the support of the more advanced players. Each grade level is considered a team within the program - even if we have to break-up on the weekend into multiple groups (teams) for playing time purposes. Coaches within the program are volunteers and are committed to the development of the girls. They are not compensated or given a discount for their daughter to play. It is important to give them 100% of your support. Finally, I personally want to thank Doug Nauman for starting and running this club the last six years. He has put a lot of time and energy into its success. A good number of girls coming up through the LCHS program have participated in this program and the results are not hard to see in the players he has worked with over the years. I only hope to continue to build upon what Doug has started and I know he has left big shoes for me to fill. Sincerely, Coach Dave
